Dr. Giesen is a Stanford University trained, third generation physician who received his osteopathic medical training from the University of New England near Kennebunkport, Maine.

Dr. Giesen practices biodynamic osteopathy in the cranial field, which is a “hands on” holistic approach that capitalizes on the intrinsic self-healing properties of the mind, body and spirit of an individual as that person is nourished and supported within the greater health of their surroundings.

The healing in biodynamic osteopathy is provided by the patient themselves with Dr. Giesen facilitating an increased awareness of and contact with the “health within”.

A child psychiatrist by training with a psychoanalytic background, Dr. Giesen utilizes the knowledge acquired from the mental health profession to provide a unique perspective to this form of bodywork. Dr. Giesen is skilled with an understanding of a psychotherapeutic framework that can assist in processing the powerful and profound healing emotive responses that may transpire during or following a treatment.

The biodynamic model of somatic healing is an approach that is a noninvasive form of treatment that does not involve “cracking” or the disarticulating of any joints, but rather focuses on a deeper level of early embryologic formation and subsequent function. The biodynamic approach allows for a person’s health to be manifest in a manner that is continuous with an expression of their individuality. This form of treatment can be helpful for a variety of ailments including chronic debilitating injuries, specific injuries to the spine, head or neck, headaches, diffuse back pain, gastrointestinal problems, autoimmune illnesses, irritable or anxious moods, and also for anyone who is interested in maximizing their wellness. Biodynamic osteopathy can also be useful for anyone undergoing a major life transition such as during infancy, adolescence, for those finishing college, between employment opportunities, individuals undergoing divorce or separation, for new parents, or for those who have recently retired.

Dr. Giesen sees biodynamic osteopathy as a compliment to the variety of available healing professions including but not limited to traditional medicine, psychotherapy, mindfulness meditation, nutritional remedies, homeopathy, yoga, and acupuncture. He requires that everyone he treats already have an established primary care physician, and when appropriate a psychotherapist and/or psychiatrist.

Dr. Giesen looks forward to working with you on finding your health.
